While serving in the United States Air Force, Dan Devine decided that he wanted to pursue a career that focused on protecting public health. Dan researched a variety of civilian employers and deciding to apply with commonwealth.
"I knew I still wanted to serve the public after the military," said Dan. "Working for the commonwealth has given me the training to pursue my goals. There are a lot of opportunities for advancement."
Dan's career took off when he was hired by the Department of Agriculture, which is responsible for making sure restaurants, grocery stores and food manufacturers in Pennsylvania are in compliance with food safety laws.
Dan started as a Food Sanitarian (food/restaurant inspector) in 2007 and was recently promoted to a Regional Food Safety Supervisor. He now oversees the work of nine food inspectors, reviews and approves food safety inspection reports and conducts audits and inspections to meet food safety law requirements.
