Caitlin was pursuing her double major when an internship with the Boston Symphony’s human resources department peaked her interest in management and business. Upon graduation, Caitlin decided to return to her Central Pennsylvania roots and pursue a degree in human resource management.
“I was fresh out of school and started looking for a job. Many of the private sector positions I saw required advanced experience. I thought I might be able to gain that experience with the commonwealth.”
Caitlin started in the Temporary Clerical Pool and continued to apply for other positions. Within a few months, she was hired as Human Resource Analyst with the Office of Administration, where she focused on time and attendance and safety matters.
Human Resource Analysts can perform a wide variety of duties, including job recruitment and placement, talent management, workforce planning, employee relations, safety, training, conducting investigations and more.
Caitlin advanced quickly, taking on work in the employee relations area, which includes disciplinary matters and union contract negotiations and grievances. She has been promoted twice and served as an acting supervisor within her unit.
“I like the work that I do. I find it both challenging and rewarding to be able to help my customers better manage their employees. Additionally, there is no such thing as a typical day. There is something new every day and that keeps me on my toes.”
