"My current position allows me to be a center point for multiple activities in the bureau. People trust me and they know I will assist them in accomplishing their goals."
When Tony Arnold graduated with his degree in philosophy, he knew he wanted a career where he could use his skills to make a difference.
“If you are creative and intuitive you will succeed,” said Arnold. “If you hone your critical thinking and reading and writing skills, you can find your path and blaze a trail in the commonwealth.”
Tony started his commonwealth career in the Bureau of Plant Industry in the Department of Agriculture and moved to the Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services in 2012.
The job duties of an administrative officer can vary widely by position. Tony helps to administer the bureau’s budget and oversee administrative and clerical support staff. Tony also interacts with a variety of agencies and stakeholder groups which include federal and state agencies, counties, academic and industry groups and staff at all levels within the Department of Agriculture.
“You can pursue a variety of professions within the commonwealth. I never know what I am going to do day-to-day. It is a very exciting career!”
