Jason Gavenda discovered his passion for technology at an early age.
“As a kid, I was always playing with computers,” he said. “Technology has always been intriguing to me. It’s always changing, and that is one of the things that lead me to be in the technology field in the commonwealth.”
Jason currently works as a senior IT analyst providing support to employees in the Department of Community and Economic Development. However, he has had the opportunity to serve in other agencies, including the Liquor Control Board and Civil Service Commission, managing and administrating databases.
“What I like about IT in the commonwealth is that I can go to a variety of agencies and do various technology roles. Part of my job now is bridging that gap between the end user and the technology.”
The commonwealth employs a wide range of IT professionals, including cybersecurity analysts, software engineers, network engineers and business analysts, according to Rosa Lara, Deputy Chief Information Officer.
“Every time a citizen interacts with state government, whether it is applying for a service online, accessing information through an app or contacting a call center to check on benefits, they’re leveraging technology that we are supporting in order to complete that transaction,” said Lara.
“If you’re willing to learn the latest and greatest and really help people with their technology needs, it’s a really great field to be in,” Gavenda said.
